World of Scribble First Writing Challenge

  • Jun. 5th, 2009 at 9:19 PM
Another writing community I joined was World of Scribble. I joined the first week it started and the following is my submission for their first writing challenge.
Here's the challenge:

I'm going to give you the bare outlines of a story's beginning, and you're going to take it from there.
You have one week to write and post the story here. Saturday May 16, 2009.
Everything else is up to you.

Characters
Main character: Dr. Anthony Tobin
His Wife: Betty Tobin (Deceased)
Young Girl: Susan Bradley

The flowers by Betty's grave are in shadow. I look up, and there's a young girl standing over me. She's wearing a bellyshirt, tight shorts, and a pair of battered flip flops that have seen better days. I think about ignoring her for a moment, but then reconsider. I've never seen her before, so perhaps she's just lost.

"Yes?" I ask, picking a point just over her left shoulder to frown at.

"Dr. Tobin?"

My eyes betray me, and shift to hers for a second. Brown eyes... She's been crying.

I sigh, put down my trowel, and stand.

"I'm Dr. Tobin," I admit.

That's all you get. Run with it.

And the following was my submission.

Scribblespark Community - Challenge Six

  • May. 28th, 2009 at 9:54 AM
Okay, so I've joined a few communities, and posted a few entries to writing challenges, so I guess I'll post them here as well, since I'm not much of a blogger.

If posting them here break any kind of LJ community etiquette, please let me know.

My first response was to a challenge from the Scribblespark community

Challenge #6 - write a piece consisting solely of dialogue.
Title: Butterflies
Rating: T
Word Count: 509
Summary: I think it's better if I don't give one.

Yup, I have no idea what I'm doing.  I haven't titled my journal or anything.  I'm interested in writing, so I expect I'll spend sometime exploring some communities before I settle myself in this journal.  Wish me luck!
